Totally Awesome Childcare is proud to offer the Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP), a free preschool program for eligible 4-year-olds. If your child turns four by September 1st, they may qualify for a high-quality preschool experience at no cost to your family.
What is GSRP?
The Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) is Michigan’s state-funded preschool program for 4-year-old children who are at risk of not being prepared for Kindergarten. It is designed to support families by providing access to high-quality early education at no cost, based on specific eligibility criteria.
GSRP helps ensure children are socially, emotionally, and academically ready for Kindergarten through structured, play-based learning.
GSRP Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for GSRP, your child must:
✔ Be 4 years old by September 1st of the school year
✔ Reside in Michigan
Meet one or more of the state-identified risk factors, which may include:
Primary Risk Factor (Required for most families):
✔ Household income at or below 250% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL)
Additional Risk Factors (may support eligibility even if above income limit):
✔ Parent with low educational attainment
✔ Child with diagnosed disability or developmental delay
✔ English not the primary language spoken at home
✔ Child experiencing abuse/neglect or environmental risks
✔ Parent under the age of 20 at time of child’s birth
✔ Family experiencing homelessness
Families above the income threshold may still qualify if multiple risk factors are present or space remains after priority placement.
